Ann MacMillan
Ann MacMillan holds a bachelor's of music education degree from Emporia State University and a master's of music education degree from the University of North Texas. In 1982 MacMillan began repairing musical instruments at Foster Music Company in Garden City, Kansas. She continued her study in instrument repair with Kim Rawlings and Bob Staley; and worked at Brook Mays Music Company in Dallas, Texas for eight years. MacMillan joined the University of North Texas College of Music as an adjunct professor of instrument repair and head of the instrument repair shop in 1997. She is a repair tech for the University students, faculty, and staff, as well as the DFW area. She also teaches beginning and advanced repair courses that cover the basics of instrument repair such as repadding, recorking, cleaning, dent work, and soldering. MacMillan also presents workshops for Dallas area band directors and clinics for the Texas Music Educators Association, and spends summers working in the repair shop at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. She continues as a freelance musician, playing gigs on both drums and trumpet.
