Camille Collins, a senior at Berkeley High School, is first tenor in the world-famous Berkeley High Jazz ensemble and also plays in the prestigious SF JAZZ High School All Stars Big Band. Camille has received recognition from Ambrose Akinmusire, Joshua Redman, and Pete Escovedo and won outstanding soloist awards at both the Folsom Jazz and Charles Mingus festivals.
In addition to being an exceptional musician, Camille is passionate about social justice and uses her music as a platform to uplift her community. Camille is the founder of the Young Musician’s Collective, a student-led program that exists to build community, create connections, accelerate learning, and share in the delight of music. Recently, she was featured in Oaklandside for her work to raise money for Black Lives Matter organizations.
Camille is an experienced music teacher. In addition to teaching for Young Musicians Collective, Camille is a private saxophone teacher and has worked as a Peer Mentor at Bay Area Girls Rock Camp.
Camille has traveled to Brazil with SF JAZZ, New York City with Berkeley High’s top combo, and Cuba with Berkeley High’s jazz program. In addition to performing at numerous private events, Camille has performed regularly at notable venues such as Yoshi’s, the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Fox Theatre in Oakland, and The Jazz Standard. She’s also played with the Mingus Dynasty Big Band, Ambrose Akinmusire, Sean Jones, Mavis Staples, Chucho Valdés, Pete Escovedo, Sheila E, Ray Obiedo, and Dayna Stephens.
