About the CGE MENTORING PROGRAM
The CGE Mentoring Program is designed to focus on fostering connections and engaging with communities, while enhancing organizational, communication, and financial skills. The program also dedicates time to focus on personal wellness. Each season, up to ten (10) applicants will be chosen to work with a selected group of mentors over the course of the academic year (October-June), culminating in meaningful community-based engagement, education, or performance projects, designed and curated by mentees under the guidance of their mentors. Community projects can be designed to reach any of the following groups: middle school- and/or high school-aged saxophonists, the elderly, individuals typically under-resourced, or broader groups within the saxophone/music community. Applicants are encouraged to identify and partner with existing community organizations in their own area. Each applicant's community engagement project idea can be of any scope and size, and all types of projects are welcome. Please note, some modest funding may be available for our mentees, but projects are largely self-funded.

Application Process
The application process for the 2023-24 mentoring program will open in early August, 2023.
Types of projects may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Presenting a performance event or recital series within your community
- Organizing a fundraising project for a school or community music program
- Hosting a series of virtual or in-person workshops on various topics (developing good practice techniques, performance anxiety, health and wellness, care and maintenance of equipment, etc.)
- Organizing community events that highlight musicians within your community (past and present)
- Creating digital resources that promote inclusivity and awareness
What Mentees Can Expect
Each selected mentee can expect to:
- Create, plan, and implement a community education-based, performance, or community engagement project with the expert guidance from their mentor through regular online meetings (at least 1-2 times per month for 45 minutes) with additional communication via email/text/phone as needed.
- Build important leadership, organizational and administrative skills, all of which are valuable on the job market in any field
- Network and connect with all mentees, mentors and the CGE mentoring program ad hoc committee in dialogue/meet up sessions (3- 4 sessions held over the duration of the program)
- Attend masterclasses/lectures led by each of the program’s mentors and other guest lecturers (at least 10 workshops offered per year)
- Strengthen their pedagogy and performance skills while continuing to create meaningful musical experiences
- Give back to their community and brighten the lives of others through music and human connection
- Opportunity to connect with CGE mentees, mentors, and committee members, and present in-person or via video presentations at regional and national NASA events. In addition, updates on projects will be featured on the CGE website and social media channels.
