Alexia McLean
Alexia McLean (she/her) is a professional saxophonist who has a passion for closing equity gaps, promoting student success, and bringing awareness of inclusion to the music community. She has presented lectures, masterclasses, and clinics across the United States with topics such as music career stereotypes, instituting a student DEI organization, and how to make yourself a marketable musician. Her passion and autonomous efforts for supporting students in the arts has enabled her to carry out specific initiatives in the higher education industry. She actively works with senior administrators and career advisors to provide ample resources for student musicians to be successful. Most recently, Alexia collaborated with career advisors to assemble alumni panels of varying careers representing positive music career outcomes. Alexia currently serves on the DEI Committee and the Disability Appeals Board within Syracuse University and is appointed as co-chair for the North American Saxophone Alliance Communications Committee.
Alexia premiered and recorded the new composition “In A Cloud, Aimless” by composer Stephen Browne, placed first in the graduate division of the 2018 NOLA Chamberfest with the Magnolia Saxophone Quartet and premiered works for composers Jase Nugent and Luciano Correa. Alexia currently performs as a soloist, and creates video content that appeals to a wider audience, bringing more awareness to what the saxophone is capable of.
As an experienced and critically acclaimed educator, students of Alexia’s studio have routinely made All-State and District Bands within Florida, Louisiana and Texas. She has given masterclasses and clinics across the United States, including Hastings College, Portland State University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and more. Alexia currently serves as the Assistant Director of Admissions Operations at Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. She is a D'Addario and a Key Leaves Performing Artist.
