Cecily Terhune
Described as having “the heart of a musician – an engaging performer and a natural teacher,” instrumentalist Cecily Terhune enjoys a rewarding freelancing and teaching career based in Indianapolis, Indiana. She concertizes regularly as a proud member of Audiodacity, the Sean Imboden Large Ensemble, and the Terhune/Hood Duo among other groups. When she’s not on stage, Terhune coaches talented student musicians at Carmel and Noblesville High Schools along with her private studio.
Terhune is an innovator and regularly seeks new opportunities in her field such as performing in nontraditional spaces, teaching virtually, recording new styles of music, and commissioning new works for contemporary classical saxophone. Her passion lies especially with cultivating the scope and repertoire of the saxophone duo.
Notable performances include a European tour as the Ball State Jazz Lab Ensemble's lead alto saxophonist in Poland and the Czech Republic, a solo recital at Mukogawa Women's University in Osaka, Japan, two solo performances at the Chautauqua Institution in New York, and solo performances with the Ball State Symphony Orchestra and the Kokomo Park Band.
Terhune completed her Master’s degree in music performance from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati after previously completing both a Bachelor’s degree and an Artist Diploma in music performance from Ball State University. While completing her AD at BSU, she held the jazz department assistantship under director and renowned jazz artist Mark Buselli. Terhune is the recipient of the Brian Minor Memorial Saxophone Scholarship, the Tom Shah Memorial Jazz Scholarship, and the Presser Music Scholarship.
