CGE 2023-24 Mentee
Maggie Camp
Maggie Camp is originally from the Grand Rapids area in West Michigan, and she recently graduated from Michigan State University in December of 2022 with Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Education and Saxophone Performance. She is very passionate about teaching and performing and wishes to take her skills to the next level at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she has just started her Master of Music degree in Saxophone Performance and Literature. She was very fortunate to study under Professor Joseph Lulloff during her undergraduate studies and is very excited to continue her studies with Professor Debra Richtmeyer for her master’s degree. During her undergraduate studies, she entered competitions for both solo and quartet playing and gave a few different recitals. She also attended various summer festivals, such as the Brevard Music Center Summer Institute, the Great Plains Saxophone Workshop, the Frederick L. Hemke Saxophone Institute, and the International Saxophone Academy Online Workshop. As far as teaching goes, she has taught private saxophone lessons and led saxophone sectionals at both the middle school and high school levels. She also gained a large amount of middle school and high school band teaching experience during her student-teaching internship in the Fall of 2022. At the end of her time at MSU, she received the Board of Trustees’ Award for earning a 4.0 GPA after every semester of study, so she will continue to strive for strong academic success at UIUC.
