Sue McKenzie
Sue McKenzie is a Yanagisawa UK Artist and D’Addario Woodwinds Artist. Her UK/US trio, Multifarious (with banjo player / composer Paul Elwood and cellist Susan Mayo) has performed in the UK, France, Croatia, the Netherlands and across the US. They released their first album in 2021 and have been featured on BBC Radio 3 (UK), Dutch TV VPRO, WUTC Radio (US) and Radio Jazz Kultura (Poland).
Sue performs with the internationally renowned Salsa Celtica, Grupo Magnetico, Glasgow Improvisor's Orchestra and Australian DJ, Hot Dub Time Machine. Recent gigs include Jazz Cafe, 606 Club (London) and West Holts stage (Glastonbury Festival). She was a recent guest artist at the RADD Jazz Series (University of Wisconsin River Falls) and has given masterclasses at Friends University (Kansas), University of Tennessee (Chattanooga), Royal Birmingham Conservatoire of Music (UK), Georgia Southern University, University of Northern Colorado and Utah State University.
Sue has given premieres of many contemporary works and has released two albums with Delphian Records. She was an Assistant Director of the 16th World Saxophone Congress (2012) and was the founder of the Scottish Saxophone Academy. Sue is the Course Director of the Edinburgh Napier University Jazz Summer School and teaches saxophone at Edinburgh University (as well as previously teaching at Northumberland, Newcastle and Durham Universities). Her "Give it a go!” jazz workshops for children have been presented at GIOfest, Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival and EFG London Jazz Festival.
Sue has also recorded for Linn Records and played as support for Esbjörn Svensson Trio and Bill Frisell. Other performances include BBC TV/Radio, Womad / Cambridge Folk Festivals, BBC SSO and in Oslo with free-improvising group, Lemur.
She studied with Kyle Horch at Royal College of Music (London), Eugene Rousseau (Japan), Lynn Klock (University of Massachusetts) and David Murray (World Saxophone Quartet), and also holds a postgraduate degree in Jazz from Edinburgh Napier University.
